WVU Football Concessions Fundraising Opportunity

One of the big organization wide fundraisers that we do each year is partnering with Sodexho to work concessions at the home WVU Football games. This is a great fundraiser for families as you can apply the proceeds directly to your personal account if you choose, so it greatly helps to reduce your player(s)' fees for the season.

One of the big organization wide fundraisers that we do each year is partnering with Sodexho to work concessions at the home WVU Football games. This is a great fundraiser for families as you can apply the proceeds directly to your personal account if you choose, so it greatly helps to reduce your player(s)' fees for the season.

Below is information about the program. If you wish to sign up to work games, please email me back by no later than July 1st. Please note, that we ask that if you sign up, you commit to working all the games if possible. Once we give Sodexho our paperwork, they will assign us concession stands, beer portables, etc. based on the number of people we have working the games. If we are assigned for example, 5 beer portables because we have 10 people sign up, and then we have someone who doesn't show up, we are fined for not having that assigned station opened and that reduces the amount earned for everyone. If you are only available for some of the games, please still send me an email with that information, but first priority will be given to those that commit to all the games for the season.

Requirements:

- You must be at least 18 years of age to work the stands

- You must complete the alcohol training if you have not already done so in the last two years (it will be an online course this year)

- You must show up to the games 4 HOURS before kickoff to get your stand prepped for the game.

- Proceeds will be distributed in January after everything is calculated. These funds will be given to you as a REFUND of fees already paid, or to pay off a remaining balance on your account. No money is issued that is above the amount you have paid for player fees in a current season. This is how we can keep this tax free for you.

Game Schedule:

- Saturday, September 10th - vs. Kansas - 6:00pm Kickoff (arrive at 2pm)

- Saturday, September 17th - vs. Towson - 1:00pm Kickoff (arrive at 9am)

- Thursday, October 13th - vs. Baylor - 7:00pm Kickoff (arrive at 3pm) *NOTE THIS IS A THURSDAY GAME

- Saturday, October 29th - vs. TCU - Time TBA

- Saturday, November 12th - vs. Oklahoma - Time TBA

- Saturday, November 19th - vs. Kansas State - Time TBA

We generally do not schedule any home hockey games on the same days as WVU Home game days and most teams will avoid scheduling away games on these dates, but it is not 100% guaranteed.

Working Game Day:

- You will show up at the stadium four hours before kickoff

- We are generally given parking passes that can be provided to those working the games (the last two years they were for the WVU Medicine garage across the street)

- You are asked to wear tan or black pants or capris (they prefer no shorts or jeans)

- You are given a smock shirt and hat to wear

- You will prep your assigned station with your partner. This means icing down the beers if you are at a beer portable, prepping food if you are assigned a concession stand, etc.

- Beer portables are open until mid to end of the 3rd quarter and then you close down. In most cases you are done by the middle to end of the 4th quarter of the game

Funding:

- At most stands/beer portables you earn tips which are yours to keep and use however you want

- Sodexho pays MHA 7% of all beer sales and 8% of all food sales for each game. We are provided an accounting of all the sales for the games and they make a one time payment to us, usually in January.

- MHA takes 10% off of the gross payment as a fundraiser for the club as a whole

- Last year we staffed four beer portables for the whole season. The final breakout of the funds was:

Total Profit: $7,137.90

Less: 10% to MHA ($713.79)

Net Profit: $6,424.11

This was divided evenly amount all those who worked, so each person earned $156.69 per game they worked. If you worked all 6 games, you would have earned $940.14 that could be applied to your player's account. If both parents worked, that amount would have been $1,880.28. And again, you generally earn tips each game that are yours to keep and are not included in these numbers.

Again, if you are interested in signing up to work games, please send an email to Treasurer@morgantownhockey.com by no later than July 1st. If you have any questions about what working a game is like, please feel free to reach out to me or you can speak with Sheila Hunt at Registrar@morgantownhockey.com as she has worked the games for many years as well.

Thank you,
