​Morgantown Hockey Association will soon be holding BLADES TRAVEL and MOHAWKS HIGH SCHOOL tryouts for the 2022-2023 hockey season! Tentative tryout dates and times are listed below. This is a great opportunity for the kids that have played developmental house and want to take hockey to the next level! The Travel hockey regular season (Squirt - MIdget) consists of 8-10 home games at the Morgantown Ice Rink and 8-10 away games that are generally in the Pittsburgh area, plus a post-season tournament; so, most games are not much more than an hour away. (Our Mite teams participate in approximately 5 home cross-ice jamborees and 5 away cross-ice jamborees.) Teams also have the option of participating in various hockey tournaments throughout our region. Most tournaments are in the Pittsburgh area, but some teams opt for the experience of travelling to places like Ontario, Canada, South Bend, Indiana, or Hershey, PA to name a few. The season begins when the ice is made available in mid-August and runs through the end of March. If you have questions, PLEASE ask your coaches at the rink!!! If you are curious about the fees for playing travel or high school hockey, you can review this past year's fees (applicable to the 2021-2022 season) in the "Registration -> 2021-2022 Season Fees Schedule" section of our website. The registration and tryout process is to help in placing players on the appropriate team and PLAN for next season. It is essential that you submit your registration information and make every effort to attend the appropriate tryout session(s)!!

​Please note that registration for the 2022-2023 Learn-to-Play and Developmental House programs will open in August.

​You will need to complete the online registration by end of day, Friday, March 11th to avoid paying a $25 late registration fee!
(A grace period of 1 day has been added.  You must register by Saturday, March 12th, 11:59PM to avoid the late fee)

​We are presently speculating that we will be fielding the following teams next season:

• (2014's - 2017's) 8U Mites - 2 to 3 teams of ~ 10 players each, most likely playing at the White (Intermediate) and Blue (Beginner) Mite ADM divisions
• (2012's, 2013's) 10U Squirts - 2 teams, each playing at their skill-appropriate division in PAHL
• (2010's, 2011's) 12U PeeWees - 2 teams, each playing at their skill-appropriate division in PAHL
• (2008's, 2009's) 14U Bantams - 2 teams, each playing at their skill-appropriate division in PAHL
• (2004's - 2007's) 16U/18U Midgets - 1 team of 18U (16U is only possible if we can field both a 16U and 18U team, and is dependent upon numbers registered at each age group)
• Girls 12U (2010's - 2013's), Girls 14U (2008's - 2011's), Girls 16U (2006's - 2009's), Girls 19U (2003 - 2008) - possibly 1 team, but this is dependent on the available PAHL divisions, and the level of interest (registrations) from each age group. If you're not in the age group listed and are interested in playing, please register anyways so that we have a count of those interested.
• (2008's - 2010's) Middle School - most likely 1 team
• (Grade 9-12) High School - 1 JV team and 1 Varsity team.

For those that are interested in playing for the Mohawks High School or Middle School team:

• The Morgantown Mohawks participate in the P.I.H.L (Pittsburgh Interscholastic Hockey League) and are one of several co-op teams in the league. By being a co-op team, we are comprised of players from various schools (as opposed to a pure team that is comprised of players from a single school). The school districts that currently make up our co-op are listed below. Our JV and Varsity players must attend one of these schools, and our Middle School players must live in a school district that is served by one of these schools. Unfortunately, per P.I.H.L. rules, we are not able to add more schools to our co-op at this time. If your child does not attend one of these high schools, or you do not live in one of these school districts (Middle School only), and your child wishes to play, please contact us to discuss eligibility.

• The Middle School program is for those attending a school in the area and is essentially non-checking Bantam hockey. All Bantam age players, as well as 2nd year PeeWee players are eligible (Birth years 2008-2010). (The Middle School roster can be comprised of no more than 25% of 2nd year PeeWee's.) 
• The High School program (JV/Varsity) is for those that will be in grades 9-12 for the 2022-2023 season.
• 2008 birth year players that will also be in 9th grade can play either Middle School or JV/Varsity.  An option will be available during registration to choose your preference (or choose to attend both Middle School and JV/Varsity tryouts).  In some cases, the organization may make the final decision as to whether the player will be rostered as a Middle School player or a JV/Varsity player.

If you know of someone that has played hockey in the past, but was not a part of Morgantown Hockey this season, please pass this information along to them.

Please understand that it is important that we receive your registration prior to the tryout sessions so that MHA has an idea of the number of teams that will potentially exist next season, and that tryout sessions can be ran accordingly. Even if your child is planning to play MITE or GIRLS next year, where a commitment fee is not required, it is essential that you still complete the registration process so that MHA has an idea as to how many potential Mite ADM teams we will field, and if there will actually be enough girls to field a U12, U14, U16, and/or a U19 team. This information allows MHA to better schedule practice slots for next season, ensure an adequate coaching staff is available, and properly establish the fee structure for each team (Note: Failing to register and attend tryouts could potentially result in higher fees for everyone on your team).

Note: For divisions with multiple tryout dates, please make every effort to attend all sessions so that an adequate player assessment can be made by our evaluators.  While goalies are expected to attend their respective age-level tryouts, please note that we are also holding a Goalie Session on Tuesday, and goalies should plan to attend this session as well.
