The Morgantown Blades Mite B hockey team experienced the thrill of their young lives this past weekend. They got to take to the same ice as their beloved Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. On Saturday, October 24th, between the first and second periods of the game between the Penguins and the New Jersey Devils, the Blades played a short intrasquad scrimmage.
The PA announcer introduced each Blade to the Mellon Arena crowd as they took their places for the opening face-off, which was performed by the Pen’s mascot Iceburgh. The play was fast and furious as both teams tried their best to score, but ultimately no one was able to get a puck past goalies Sydney Smith and Trevor Cooke.
The horn sounded for the Blades to exit the ice all too quickly, but a fun time was had by all, and our boys and girls really made us proud.
Taking the ice for the blue team was: Reis Snider, Turner Lawrence, Jacob Metcalf, Colton Hotsinpillar, Max Marsula, Isaac Debastiani and Trevor Cooke Taking the ice for the white team was: Ethan Smith, Cayden Neely, Matthew Derk, Daniel Arthurs, Parker Idler, Scout Spong, Brody Smith and Sydney Smith The Blades Mite B Team is coached by Sean Arthurs, Joe Smith and Rob Cooke.
Perhaps some of our young Blades will one day grow up to play for the Penguins. On this night, the Pens could have used some help as New Jersey came away with a 4-1 victory. The loss could not dampen the spirits of our players and the fifty plus friends and family that joined us that night, though. Thanks to everyone who made the evening a huge success and an unforgettable experience.
